Secure Shell, also known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote server or to exchange info between a website hosting server and a client. Due to the fact that the information exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a third party cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands which could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for instance, the options are limited since you won't have root access to the machine, so you can only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. These are all actions that are carried out inside the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the option to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted via a command line, and if you don't employ a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a variety of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote hosting server as well.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting

SSH access is featured with all shared website hosting we offer. With some of them, it is offered as standard, while with others it's an additional upgrade you can include with several mouse clicks from your hosting CP. You can obtain SSH access through the section dedicated to it in which you shall also find the details that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can pick the password which you shall use and, if required, you shall be able to change it with a few mouse clicks from the same spot. All the commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed within a help article along with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is allowed for your account, you'll also be able to upload files using your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.
